PELLEAS ET MELISANDE, 28,40', 2011 / 2012

Pelléas et Mélisande is a silent film adaptation of the play with the same name by Maurice Maeterlinck. Maeterlinck's story comes visible by actors seeking to come together through different layers of water and shadows. The music in the film is a rare composition of Jean Sibelius: Pelléas och Mélisande. It includes melancholic and magical elements that connect these levels together.

The short film has two parts, Part I is written and directed by Elina Oikari and Part II by Lauri Danska.

This film has been screened with two different compositions. It was originally made for Jean Sibelius' composition: Pelléas och Mélisande, conducted by Dalia Stasevska.

A year later the two directors came up with an idea to install a brand new composition for the film. A young Finnish composer Mari Sainio made music for the film in 2012. Sainios' composition has minimalistic and poetic elements which resonate intensively with the film.
